Baller's Inc. began in September of 2002 by Clifton Gorham and Dennis Marshall. The idea was discovered when Dennis Marshall was taking his son, Kendall Marshall, to Maryland at 5:30am on Saturday mornings to workout. Amazed with the amount of kids that showed up for his son's workout was a shocker, but that number dwindled and they suddenly realized they were the only two in the gym at 11:30. Chinn had two (2) full length basketball courts available for kids to practice all day. "Kids just don't work anymore," stated Coach Marshall. "The internet, video games, and text messaging have taken over our children." BI is trying to make a difference by incorporating it's two (2) workout programs, that consists of basic fundamental skills and on occasion a 15 minute pickup game, into game type situation scenarios.
He mentioned his turnout to Clifton Gorham, the Senior Athletic Director of the Hylton Boys & Girls Club at the time, and they both decided that they could start a similar workout program in Virginia. They both realized that they shared the same interest and frustration with the lack of fundamental youth basketball development in Prince William County. Clifton Gorham, a student of the game and former player\coach, and Dennis Marshall, a successful AAU Coach and personal trainer, formed the Baller's Inc partnership. The nifty name " Baller's Inc." and dynamic slogan were born. It started out as a simple workout at 7:00am on Saturdays. Then moved to 8:00am a couple of years later. As interest grew so did the services of the Ballers Inc. (BI) staff. Request started coming in for individual training sessions, team workout sessions, and conditioning clinics throughout the Prince William County area.
BI feels that athletic kids today are not given enough fundamental skills to work with, because of their demanding basketball schedules. For instance, AAU is a year round program, High School teams play in fall and summer leagues. We believe that is why a lot of kids don't shoot the ball well or are decent individual players, but are not very good team players. BI believed then and now that if young athletes are able to master the fundamental skills combined with hard work they will create a "True Baller". This made the partnership between Coach Marshall and Coach Gorham the perfect combination for player development.
Baller's Inc. conducts individual training sessions, team workout sessions, conditioning clinics, and has an annual summer camp in late August. BI summer campers may experience trips to Villanova, meet successful Head Coaches, Student-Athletes (High School and Collegiate level). The BI Staff supports their young athletes by attending their games, workouts and tournaments to evaluate their playing time and skill level during real-time games.
